I don't know about setting up VPS, but the standard way to use IB is to run their main client (either the GUI-based "TWS" or the GUI-less "IB Gateway"), then connect to the main client. Your binary is totally separate from the main client, which you do not modify. Have you looked at Lightspeed Trading?
