"That's a nice website you have there. It would be a shame if you couldn't display ads."
How is this anything other than a hilariously transparent shake-down? An ad company that controls both ends of the ad pipeline (Chrome and Adsense) is "protecting" people not by blocking terrible ads, but by blocking all ads on sites it deems "disruptive."
- mseebach 9y agoA shakedown usually involves an opportunity to pay to avoid the consequences. At the very least, it certainly isn't "hilariously transparent".
- username223 9y agoI assume Google's customer support staff can contact the owners of blacklisted sites and sell them more Adsense inventory, or encourage them to stop doing business with competing ad vendors.

- ComputerGuru 9y agoI presume the “pay opportunity” would be to use their own ad network. Yes, it is subject to the same rules. Officially.
- bzbarsky 9y agoYou can totally pay to avoid the consequences. Just buy all your ads from Google, and you're guaranteed to not be violating their policies.
