I have been waiting for this for a new HTPC built that can also do a good job as a gaming system. Now comes the fun of reading each motherboard spec in detail to figure out if it can output 4K@60 (HDMI2.0?) By fun, I mean pain as this info is hard to find on the boards I have looked at so far.
- saas_co_de 9y agoI would have hoped that this wouldn't be an issue but looked at specs on a few itx boards and they are only listing HDMI 1.4. Major bummer if that is true.
- nnain 9y agoFor 4K@60 or 1440p@144, you would need a motherboard with 'Display Port' not just HDMI. That should eliminate quite a few.
- zokier 9y agoWrong. https://www.hdmi.org/press/press_release.aspx?prid=133 https://www.hdmi.org/press/press_release.aspx?prid=133 > September 4, 2013 – IFA 2013 – HDMI Forum, Inc., a non-profit, mutual benefit corporation, today announced the release of Version 2.0 of the HDMI Specification. This latest HDMI Specification, the first to be developed by the HDMI Forum, offers a significant increase in bandwidth (up to 18Gbps) to support new features such as 4K@50/60 (2160p),
- nnain 9y agoAh thanks for the check. I would still recommend getting a motherboard with Display Port(DP) to future proof the core components. I bought a gaming monitor 2 months back, and it came with only the DP cable. I see DP recommended by most game rig builders.
- zanny 9y agoHDMI 2.0 does 4k@60.
- mizzack 9y agoRaven Ridge supports 4k60 via HDMI 2.0b. However, no current mobos do. New mobos with updated chipsets should and those are due out in April with the Ryzen refresh.
- mizzack 9y agoIt looks like even though all motherboards are only officially HDMI 1.4, there are reports of 4k60 4:4:4 working just fine! YMMV, but this is good news nonetheless: https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/7xd636/raven_ridge_hdmi_20_test_request/ https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/7xd636/raven_ridge_hdm...
