IMHO Slack should be used only as informal communication tool. Neither Slack nor Discord or others facilitate the most important part: long-term result from communication.
Why? People are used to WhatsApp, FB Messenger, etc. and chat these days is mostly without consequences. That also translates to Slack and others.
Effective communication producing results IMHO requires investment. Chat is the opposite of that.
Anecdotal part from various companies: Slack is mostly a place for slacking off, doing silly things or send "untraceable" reprimands (since free tier does not archive) long-term.
Organisation has to be company culture before using tools like Slack, or Slack will do you no good.
... feel free to replace Slack with any other messaging app.
