Being unable to move past an old username without having to give up your history is rather uncomfortable too. During my freshman year of college a particular sandwich shop hired a spokesperson who shared my first name. One thing led to another, and the name of that shop became a lasting nickname. Unfortunately that spokesperson turned out to be quite a monster, leaving me in a bit of an awkward position on sites that don't allow username changes.
