I think you're talking about culture fit. Even when striving for diversity, I want to ensure competency in the role they'll perform at the company, which I feel depends on a combination of technical experience, understanding, ability as well as communication skills, and ability to function well in a team. I'm trying to think through how to assess team skills well that would also fit into the constraints of an interview.
