This is really neat, but at the same time, Google Maps/Navigation and Google Search are easily two of the slowest apps on my 2013 Moto X. I guess what it comes down to is: they have a confined, well defined feature set (maps + navigation), which only requires a simple API to maintain. The functioning of the different versions that talk to that API is independent of that API.
