Well said. I think that what’s becoming clear is that the downsides of our 21st century Information Age is similar to last century’s nuclear age. Like radioactive materials, data is extremely valuable, but prone to leaking and no one’s figured out how to store it safely long term. It can hang around for ages, and if (when) it gets out in an equifax-style meltdown the consequences can be devastating. The only way to safely store it is to not have it.
