Humans are capable of learning a variety of different skills, even if they have already learned one. Articles like this treat them like specially made parts that are only suited for one thing. The thing is that here in the US, we (collectively) tend to define a large part of our identity by the job that we do. We are definitely more than just cab driver, just developers, and just data scientists. We are also parents, musicians, woodworkers, authors, gamers, teachers, pilots, and a number of innumerable things. Yet before we even stop to ask what people do for fun, we ask, "What do you do," with an implicit "For money?" tacked on the end.
