You're thinking of the oldest of the old: bitcoin. Modern (sometimes called 3rd gen) cryptos are able to do instant, secure transactions with no fees. A project I'm particularly fond of, having tried it out, is called nano[0]. The whitepaper gets pretty vague at times but is overall an interesting read that I recommend.
