I don't think it's a silly question, but I think free money basically means dismissing the money system altogether. That would work in an ideal world with ideal people but we are not that far out of the jungle yet (and I'm not referring to intelligence levels but to qualities that didn't evolve as fast as our intelligence). So, while you're right in principle, in practice there will probably still be a lot of injustice and suffering to go around long after everything is automated. Having said that, I still think it's a step in the right direction to reduce the ills of society.

I don't mean money, but what it brings. Money is a great motivator to keep things running and to create.. incentive If everyone has everything, too many people will sit on the couch and do nothing most likely. Create a game with a top 10 rank, and suddenly the game attracts millions more people. Rank points in this is like money, a way to give us a sense of place and where we want to go (high rank/ income) and kick our own butts to not miss out (low rank/income). TLDR: Money inequality gives a ladder, and this ladders brings us incentive to motivate to go up and keep complacency away if we go to far down. equality by it's very definition, won't have this ladder attribute.
