Look at the successful IT startups - they almost always have a technical founder - Gates, Wozniak, Zuckerberg, Page & Brin. They may have business co-founders such as Balmer or Jobs, but the technical side is always there. Business founders may know the market, but they lack the vision that comes from a deep understanding of the technology. You can pay an employee to build a site, but you can't pay for the vision. I can't think offhand of a single successful tech startup that did not have at least one tech co-founder. I know a lot of MBA morons who thought they could buy their way into a successful tech startup and floundered helplessly.
