Be sure to read "Make it stick". It's a real eye opener about effective learning. It's written by a bunch of scientists, and based in scientific evidence. Basically, the most common study strategies are the most effective. Also, a "A mind for numbers" is another book with a slightly different take. It's less general and more focused on how to learn math and other hard science subjects. Edit: Basically, the most common study strategies are the least effective. Least, not most.
