Typical Tesla does X article. Its about the future, its going to be the biggest of its kind, not even trying to compare whats already existing.
One other (counter) example woule be next-kraftwerke (https://www.next-kraftwerke.com/ https://www.next-kraftwerke.com/), an already existing virtual power plant with 4300+ connected producers, 3500MW potential output (more than anything claimed in the article) and also 100% renewable (including wind, solar, water, wind2hydrogen etc.). And there certainly others...
- Animats 9y agoRight. Change title to "Tesla proposes large grid-connected home solar project in AU."
- dang 9y agoDone. Thanks!
- kurthr 9y agoThey are doing good stuff in Germany, no doubt, but that all seems a bit comparing apples and oranges. If you look at the total SA grid it's over 1500MW being stabilized by the Tesla 100MW battery today. That seems to be roughly equivalent to what next-kraftewerke is doing... since they aren't adding any capacity or even instaneous offset. They are adding dynamic control to existing hydro in 15min increments and 30MW seems like a big deal in their press releases. Adding 50k houses with 5kW systems is 250MW of new production and ~700MWh of fast (<<1sec) storage is an entirely different thing since it's faster than the peaker plants can come on and prevents a brown/blackout. Why all the negativity?
