I think there can be different reasons to hire someone. If I'm running a project and I'm having all kinds of problems to get my node.js performance to an acceptable level I'd look for a programmer that knows how to tweak node.js and all parameters associated with it (scripts, server, OS). If I'm starting a project and I already have a node.js specialist aboard and I need to hire someone for the long term I can basically hire anyone with the right talents. But it's a very different story depending on the parameters.
