Ask HN: WebDAV meets Wiki for 3rd party dependency management and documentation?
The more my projects come to rely on 3rd party products (anything from a Linux cli tool to a cloud platform provider), the more I end up with a tree structure on my file system to try to store and organise the various components (PDF User Guides, git repos, links to online articles etc) that eventually becomes difficult to understand why some of the files are there, where they came from and how they relate to other files or directories internal or external to that component or product.
I use XWiki (on my laptop) to try to organise and document the knowledge around these products &| components, but there is no ability to merge that structure with the underlying file system structure with all the supporting files.
I think what I'm really looking for is something that merges the idea of a WebDAV interface with a Wiki. Does anyone know if such a thing exists? Revision control with Git wouldn't be a bad thing either.
I'm not looking for a traditional CMS that has a database for storing and managing mostly textual and multimedia content. I'm really looking for a tool that is driven by the structure of an underlying file system, and it's contents. I've found Kirby, which is "file-based" and doesn't run off a database, but I don't think it's solving the problem I describe.
Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
