Never has been.
- madengr 9y agoYes. It is a constitutional republic. A democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what's for dinner.
- d0lph 9y agoActually a republic is a type of democracy.
- madengr 9y agoThe People's Democratic Republic of Korea is both.
- d0lph 9y agoIn spite of the name, North Korea is a dictatorship.
- madengr 9y agoI agree, that was my point.
- emodendroket 9y agoWell then it doesn't really seem to answer the argument that a "representative democracy" and "direct democracy" can plausibly be classified as two forms of democracy.
- qbrass 9y agoGive all the voting power to one person.
- emodendroket 9y agoWhy not read the article and engage with the idea of democracy in the sense it's being used? Anyone could have written this comment and I don't see what it adds to the discussion.
- yequalsx 9y agoThey are using the word democracy in the colloquial sense. If you read the article it’s clear they are talking about a growing disconnect between policy makers’ decisions and the needs/wants of the public. Just saying, “never has been one” isn’t helpful.
