Medical students, along with dentists were taught to alleviate the pain. It was considered unethical to let your patients wallow around in pain. Now--your doing them a "favor". I took a seventy year old friend to a pain clinic. He was physically falling apart, and was always in pain. He used to say, "The Golden Years?" In retrospect, he should have been in Pallitive Care, but medicine is still very much an Art. Well, he did feel better on opioids. His doctor just decided she didn't want to give him the pills anymore, and would only prescribe Tramadol. He wasen't abusing. I really think she didn't want the FDA knocking on the door. I remember taking him to the "best" pain clinic in San Francisco. After taking an obscene fee; they offered an operation that would cut nerves in his back. He was in terrible health, and they wanted to do a experimental surgery? He died a year later in his sleep. He was in daily agonizing pain. He used to joke about suicide. I don't think he was joking. My point is I don't believe the Opoid Crisis is do to Doctors, or even drug companies. I have a weird feeling it's a combination of factors. One--Americans are misserable. This is not the country I saluted to on a lot of levels. The uplifting effect of opioids really astonished certain people. It's kinda ironic, that opioid abuse really took off after the anti-depressants were questioned over efficacy? Plus--the media/films have really done a disservice to exactly how the body reacts to the absence of Opoids in the system. I've heard people claim they were addicted after two weeks of opioid therapy. I wonder how much self-suggestion/reverse Placebo? played in their supposed addiction? My point is some people are in real pain. Opioids made their life bearable. There will be patients who do need opioids, but will end up like my friend--in pain, and misery.

"In 2015, more than 40 percent of the oxycodone prescriptions filled by Westside Pharmacy in Oceana were coming from the Virginia doctor, according to the committee’s letter. The following year, the Virginia Board of Medicine suspended the doctor’s license, finding his practice posed a “substantial danger to public health and safety.”" Possibly the person named here: https://pilotonline.com/news/local/health/article_7b369428-0054-5131-aafe-55f95882b6bc.html https://pilotonline.com/news/local/health/article_7b369428-0...
