This article is about the complexity of software development. The complexity of software itself (and hardware, as we have seen recently) is a much bigger problem. More and more machines are playing a larger role in our lives and decisions; but we don't come close to understanding them. In about a decade, things will just "happen" with no clear cause (the actual cause being some emergent behavior of out complex systems), and we will revert to pre-enlightenment mystics and superstitions.
