If you want to see some crazy US Air Force training, youtube "red flag training". Those videos give an amazing perspective on what our military is trained to do.
- craftyguy 9y agoAs someone who served in "our military", public videos do not capture the "hurry up and wait" that dominates the majority of all military actions.

- platz 9y agoMote accurate than than training: r/combatfootage
- ryanmarsh 9y agoHurry up and wait aside, we do some pretty incredible things, briefly, when the waiting stops.
- sneak 9y agoYes, it is definitely against credibility that an otherwise mostly civilized country would spend more than half their tax income on efforts to torture and kill millions of people.
- loteck 9y agoYou'd expect nothing less from a $170 billion organization that is tasked with being ready for global war at a moment's notice.
- rxhernandez 9y agoThat number doesn't look to be within 2 orders of magnitude of a lowball estimate.
- selectodude 9y ago$17 trillion seems off too.
- nielsole 9y agoIn 2010 it was 680 bn $ for the entire defense budget. http://thehill.com/homenews/senate/64377-senate-to-vote-on-defense-bill# http://thehill.com/homenews/senate/64377-senate-to-vote-on-d..., 170 for Air Force seems about right
- MagnumOpus 9y ago$170bn is just the annual inflow of resources. The air force is easily a 3-trillion dollar organisation - that's what it would cost to rebuild machinery, equipment and know-how over decades if it wouldn't exist.
- rxhernandez 9y agoNot for their total worth; maybe for their yearly budget that might be out of place.
- 13of40 9y agoMoving, cleaning, and sleeping on large green objects doesn't make for very engaging cinema.
