Anecdotally I've heard of many cases where hosts, especially for conferences/events when demand is extremely high, cancel on guests last minute in hopes of rebooking at a higher rate. Unless there's a preventative mechanism in place to stop that it leaves attendees in a really bad spot.
- milkshakes 9y agothere is a preventative mechanism in place: cancellation by host for a given night blocks that night from the host's calendar, preventing them from rebooking it at a higher price: https://www.airbnb.com/help/article/990/i-m-a-host--what-penalties-apply-if-i-need-to-cancel-a-reservation https://www.airbnb.com/help/article/990/i-m-a-host--what-pen...
- dawhizkid 9y agoThat doesn't apply to instant book bookings. Seems like a pretty big loophole to me.
- calbear81 9y agoOnly if they attest that they are "uncomfortable with the guest" as their reason for canceling. Abuse of any type of cancellation in general on the host side will trigger thresholds for follow up action. This type of cancellation is not the norm.
