Why would a terrorist destroy their personal devices yet leave their work phones intact? What kind of criminal would use a work device to commit any sort of crime? I'm sure the work iPhone was managed by a MDM. The US spent millions and even tried to force a company to write a backdoor. They tried to set a precedent, they knew there was nothing on the phone. It wasn't about the phone it was about using fear to get American citizens to sign over more rights.
