Where I see the difference is in the downside risk of investing in crypto-currencies vs. the risk of traditional stock markets. Maybe if you are investing in penny stocks there could be a compatible risk/reward at play, but if you are investing in stocks with a normal growth curve then it's unlikely for a properly divested portfolio to lose 90+% of it's value or gain 1000+% within 12-24 months.
