I wonder if Erdogan thinks he'll be the one who escapes the universal fate of tyrants.
As Turkey becomes increasingly alienated from the EU, Putin looks to gain another monster.
- lawlessone 9y agoWish i had your optimism , but tyrants seem to be the norm throughout history.
- tim333 9y agoI'm not sure what the universal fate of tyrants is supposed to be. A lot of them seem to hang in there fairly comfortably till they die of old age.
- ryandrake 9y agoMinus a couple of outliers, I think history has taught us that the fate of tyrants and oppressors is a long, healthy, and comfortable life of luxury and immense wealth. As a bonus, that fate often includes admiration and support from at least 50.1% of the oppressed population.

When the topic is politicized, as it is here, it's important for comments to stay grounded in the specifics of the article and not take off into garden-variety politics.
