- Valmar 9y agoCrazy black magic which is insane and completely unnecessary, according to Linus. Seems like Intel just wants to half-arse a solution.
- silvestrov 9y agoI read it like: Intel will make a fix but the fix will be disabled by default as that results in the best performance numbers, those that will be reported in the media. When you want to use the CPU in the cloud, you have to enable the fix and get much lower performance. But nobody in the media will care about that as they have the nice performance numbers and therefore Intel don't care to implement a fix with high performance.
- xxxdarrenxxx 9y agoI say this always. Intell uses magic tricks to compensate for the fact we hit diminishing returns with processing power in general. They now compensate with a counter magic spell. It is what it is. I have been using intel cpu for a long time, because yea, they did give me the performance I was looking for. That said, a Car with a broken engine doesn't run, or a broken drive shaft, or burned electronics etc. This is why I call this magic, after this fix, the cpu still can do all it tasks, alas magic spells to increase performance, but not true engineering architectural deficiencies
