The grass is always greener, hoss. It's not just you. It's not just programming. As a professional artist (18+ years and trained since childhood) and dabbler in every discipline (and friends in most) I can tell you, without a doubt, that every session musician, visual effects artist, writer (of every stripe) that does it for a living has to deal with endless streams of tedious bullshit. Creativity isn't a panacea for the existential blues. If it's not a compiler it's a producer, art director, editor or studio being the petty opponent. So, like every master since antiquity I'm going to ring that familiar bell... "It's all in your head, dude. It's all perspective. It's all in how you look at it. Chop wood, carry water."
