I love such generalized titles. My mathematically modified brain automatically searches for an example when you cannot copy something, then the whole statement is not true. My dog agrees, he cannot be copied over the network :)
- j_s 9y agoI didn't realize from the title that this was a CLI network clipboard client/server, and another commenter helpfully pointed out it operates independently of the system clipboard.
- pveierland 9y agoPedantically, the state of any material object is just information and should be transferable over a network?
- yesenadam 9y agoNo.."Chaos theory has taught us" that it would take an infinite amount of information to precisely-enough specify 'state'.
- pveierland 9y agoDoesn't this depend on the universe being not entirely discrete? If the universe is entirely discrete, then it should be possible to represent the exact state of it? In any case, I don't think it follows that an infinite amount of information is necessary to describe e.g. a dog to the extent to which it could be transferred and there being no functional difference to the copy, even though the exact state is not represented.
