Having a degree in aerospace engineering and being a lifelong air and space fan this discussion is mostly disappointing. hacker news comments are of distinctly poorer quality outside the subjects of software and startups - sensation, urban legend, and ignorant story-telling is rising to the top instead of explanation, context, and insight. 8 of the top 10 comments are inane (UFOs! Movies! tinfoil-hats! Sophomore-year economics!). Makes one wonder how much the mainstream hacker news threads are suffering from similar problems that I just can't perceive.
