This kind of automatic subscription needs to be regulated, it's still the most prominent dark pattern. Amazon is actually really good with this. I got a mail early January that I had just been signed up for a whole year of amazon prime, which I saw after my holidays 2 days into the 'subscription'. I was instantly fuming and ready to rain down hell fire when I conveniently found a button to cancel. I could easily undo the whole thing from the site with no user interaction. They made it very clear the money would be refunded. Props to them.
