I've only played handheld or with the joycons separated - I haven't tried that in-box faux-controller-mount-thing. I can't imagine wanting to either. I like the freedom of being able to hold each hand however it wants to be held, without clutching onto them both onto a 5 inch wide piece of plastic. It's also the first game system I've bought in more than a decade, so I'm not exactly accustomed to any particular controller style.
