Just like the GP, I routinely get e-mails asking to schedule a call with a recruiter. If these recruiters did not use e-mail like you, then neither of us would be getting these e-mails, right? And, replying to your edit, most people can actually tell if they are speaking to a man or a woman and some can even detect accents so they don't need to ask (like they would have to if they were using text communication).
