PEs have continuing education requirements as well. They are, largely, a joke compared to what software engineers are supposed to do to prepare for a single FAANG interview. For example, Texas (where I would have been licensed had I pursued it) requires 15 hours per year, of which at least one must be ethics[1]. I went to a one-day power supply seminar sponsored by TI (just because I wanted to) that would have covered half that requirement.
