To be honest, I'm skeptical that this is a universal feature of the MacBook line. I don't own one of my own (I'd never!) but I use one for work and I can see those effects as well if I know how to look at them (I used to have a DLP and it was easy to reproduce the rainbow effect).
The flickering on this LEDs is not really any different from the CCFL flickers before.
