Socialism is where the state owns the means of production, which hasn't been successful anywhere. You're likely thinking of a larger welfare state, using taxes on a free trade economy to provide for those in need, which has been successfully tried over and over.
- aleksei 9y agoThere are many forms of socialism, quite different from each other. You're likely referring to the Soviet model with state ownership, but the welfare state example is pretty much the Nordic model and social democracy.
- merpnderp 9y agoI'm referring to Socialism as it's author intended. Precise language is a feature not a bug, and helps cut down on misunderstandings and needless confusion/arguments. Calling a free market welfare state, socialist, is like saying 'literally' when you literally meant 'figuratively'. Without vocal cues or meaningful context, you'll be misunderstood.
