I am not a doctor, but wouldn't drinking unfiltered water stress your kidneys?

  New York City tap water was unfiltered until recently, so I'd guess if it was a problem for kidneys we'd have heard about it. Note that I said unfiltered, not untreated. It was treated with ultraviolet, chlorine, fluoride, orthophosphate (inhibits lead contamination from pipes) and sodium hydroxide (reduces acidity).
