The most tragic aspect to the responses here is the strangely monochromatic assertion that only homeless people count as poor.
Utterly bizarre.
- DoreenMichele 9y agoPeople tend to focus on their biggest fears. It is an overwhelmingly male forum. It's not really rational, but pointing to statistics about homelessness and gender as a way to dismiss other points about the feminization of poverty is really common. It probably comes from a place of fear and suggests to me that men are saying "It isn't like my life is just peachy. And if I can't hack it, then fuck me. Society won't do shit all for me." And that's not a crazy thing to be wrapped around the axle about, though it doesn't generally make for good debate.
