I've generally had a lot of trouble with GAE. Debugging is really hard and things seem to fail for weird reasons. The use case I have, with a front end and a static backend, has been surprisingly complicated. I recently shut my app down because it wasn't worth the time to figure out how to change my app for the Dec 15th upgrade.
