I dont buy the theory that Optometery is such an expensive profession. Opticians here in the UK do well (definitely in the richer cohort of society) and you can get two pairs of glasses for under £100. In fact some of the bigger chains offer free tests and two pairs for £69. None of this is NHS subsidised as far as I know (you can get free glasses on the NHS but it only applies to children and adults with certain medical conditions or low income).
