He's got plenty of time to rethink that strategy of doing the right thing in exchange for some niceties... I wonder what was the biggest factor in making him decide to reveal the plot instead of trying to execute it.

- ataturk 9y agoBecause we live in a police state and even escaping custody is only step #1 in escaping. How many people escape for good? Next to none, I would guess. It requires getting away from the immediate area and getting to a new location where you can develop a new identity somehow and you're always on the run because of finger prints and biometrics. I would say there is no place to run in the US, even in the remotest areas, there's no way to get work no questions asked. You would have to escape to Latin America and join a drug gang or something and hope you don't get murdered.
- dmurray 9y agoI would guess it's a lot easier and less risky to find a few vulnerabilities than to successfully exploit them and get away with it at the first attempt. After all, even his previous "successful" escape resulted in him being shot and recaptured and years added to his sentence, and his colleague being killed. It also sounds like he really wants to spend more time with his girlfriend and her son, while he was single during his previous escape.

- totalZero 9y agoEven if the escape is doable, life after the escape is full of complications. Maybe that's part of it, for him.
