I've successfully used computer glasses (CG) for a couple years now (age 60, nearsighted, for a monitor 2 feet away). Before that I tried reading glasses, but found their focal length to be impossibly too close for computing (no more than 12 inches). My opthmologist came up with my CG prescription by dividing my distance prescription in half. It works well from 18 inches out to 3 feet, or so.
