I might be able to provide some insight. In my MSc program, we had a number of Indian students. The students who were expected by their parents to become computer scientists had much worse attitudes and were much harder to work with than the ones who were doing it on their own initiative. I was told becoming a computer professional is something parents pressure their offspring to do, and this could be the root cause of this phenomenon.
