Every time we hit a new phase in life, our fears come out. My guess is that this guy might be feeling insecure knowing that his wife could divorce him. He's clearly pursued a life that is about making money and intends to keep doing so, so there is a good chance he equates having money (or both to being lovable / worthy of Love on some deep level. He may be trying to arrive at feeling secure in his romantic relationship the only way he knows how -- via a business deal. He's missing an incredible opportunity to be vulnerable with her and discover his true worth, inside.
