The simpler solution here is to just put it in your HOSTS file. And you don't really need to put all of them in there; just put in sci-hub.org and use that.

- dredmorbius 9y agoHow many hosts do you manage? Will your hosts file handle 1542 TLDs? Does your device have a configurable hosts file?
- dingo_bat 9y agoIs there any device people use for reading scientific papers that doesn't have a configurable hosts file?
- dredmorbius 9y agoYes. An Android tablet with FBReader or Pocketbook. Almost certainly a similarly configured iOS device. (I use the former heavily. It is among the devices autoconfigured by the system described in the OP.)
- DKnoll 9y agoYou can modify the hosts file on an Android device relatively easily.
- dredmorbius 9y agoThat's not been my experience.
- DKnoll 9y agoIt's the most common way of doing ad blocking on Android, you do it the same way as you would on a Linux PC. Of course, you need root, just like on a PC. There are apps that will do it for you even.
- dannyw 9y agoIs there any reason for having 1542 TLDs that point to the same address instead of just one, other than wasting time trying to conform to invented but pointless requirements?
- dredmorbius 9y agoYes: Demonstrating that the "we're gonna take your domains away" approach fails, and will result in backlash.
