The noticeable career effect for me was (and is) severe job opportunities pool shrinkage. I can't mentally go back to 9-5 @office - that translates to ~95% of jobs off the table.
- SerLava 9y agoThat doesn't sound so bad. It's just that you love remote?
- minor3rd 9y agoI started working remote 80% of the time about 2 months ago and I'm getting to this point as well.
- deckard1 9y agoSame here. I love working remote, and have been doing it for nearly 5 years now. The idea of getting up early, getting into a car, driving an hour, and sitting at a table with 20 other people surrounding you in one of those open offices that are all the rage today... just kill me now. This may sound trivial, but being able to take a dump in total privacy and comfort any time of the day is amazing.
- nerflad 9y agoNothing like the "home base" toilet.
- snuxoll 9y agoAmen to that. I can't stand the thought of commuting anymore after being 100% remote for nearly four years now. I've had recruiters contact me on LinkedIn, StackOverflow, etc. and summarily turned them down because the position wasn't remote. I get to be home when my daughter comes back from preschool, make lunch in my own kitchen, and when I clock out for the day I can get right to spending time with my family. Unless I am absolutely in need of work RIGHT NOW I will not take another position that requires I go to an office, even 1 day a week.
