- WillPostForFood 9y agoThe three comments here show why behavior like Murs goes not only unaddressed, but unpunished. Rap culture shouldn't be off limits to criticism because of race.
- root_axis 9y agoWhat? Those comments are remarking on your needles injection of race into the discussion, not your criticism of rap culture.
- nailer 9y agoYou are correct in that WillPostForFood other poster is mentioning rap culture, which is predominantly based on a racial and class-based culture, but they are not injecting it into the discussion as it is part of what occurred. Perhaps you're simply uncomfortable discussing the topic, which is common.
- root_axis 9y ago> You are correct in that WillPostForFood other poster is mentioning rap culture Huh? He literally said "black rap culture", not simply "rap culture" as you deliberately omitted in your reply. More than half of the top 10 rappers on the I-Tunes charts right now are white, and there is a huge section of the black community that is extremely critical of rap culture, there is also a large selection of rap music outside of the mainstream that explicitly rejects these themes, yet WillPostForFood insists on characterizing misogyny in rap as "black rap culture" rather than accept the criticism that there is a little more nuance to the topic than "black people are to blame for this, don't let them off the hook, it's their culture!". > Perhaps you're simply uncomfortable discussing the topic, which is common. Perhaps you're simply condescending and dismissive.
- WillPostForFood 9y agoThe ultimate racist move is to deny the connection between hip hop and black culture. Total cultural appropriation right there.
- root_axis 9y ago> The ultimate racist move is to deny the connection between hip hop and black culture. Total cultural appropriation right there Your snide tone is reason enough to write you off as a troll, but to read my comment as a denial of the connection between hip hop and black culture while also implying I am a racist requires a special gift for disingenuous toxicity. You've made your point.
- nailer 9y agoAs I deliberately omitted? The next line of the sentence you're quoting is "...which is predominantly based on a racial and class-based culture". I think you should consider your own position before accusing others of deliberate omission.
- QAPereo 9y agoYou do realize that “rap culture” revolves around a product marketed to, and bought predominately by white kids, right? I realize the term is just a dog whistle for a much less kind word, but still.. so stupid.
- jsoc815 9y agoFun fact: An Interscope executive's teenage daughter was/is responsible for Tupac being signed to the label. She really liked his demo and begged her father to sign him.
