Artificial means man-made. Intelligent in this context simply means "that which can make good decisions on its own." So artificial intelligence is really designing and building self-suficient machines that can make good decisions on their own without the help of an outside decision maker. This way we eliminated not-well-defined words "intelligent" and "artificial" without a loss of meaning. As humans make self-deciding robots some other self-deciding organism designed and made human body as a self-deciding organic/chemical machine.
