I've wondered why "tropical attire" hasn't caught on in the American South and Southwest. In the summers especially it is consistently hotter and more humid than most tropical locations. If anything, multi-layered wool-and-leather getup is inappropriate for the climate. If plastic melts in your car in the parking lot, maybe requiring people to wear a coat or jacket is a bit much.
