I can't help but get the sense that this is just a closed-minded way to think about things. Yes, if you've been studying transportation for decades you have probably got drilled into your head that "this is how public transit is supposed to work". I'm sure there were plenty of people who made similar arguments about taxis when Uber started up. Or about horses when cars were invented. Or about planes, electricity, etc. Any fairly revolutionary technology started with most people saying "you're insane". I mean you don't even have to look far -- many of Musk's other accomplishments were scorned, too. Reusable rockets? Electric cars people actually want? That's ridiculous! Until it isn't...
