Some people are different and will differentiate candidates by sometimes seemingly unrelated things. I remember hearing a story in my Engineering Communications class that someone was selected for a job over an equally qualified candidate for putting down that they liked to play chess as a hobby. Apparently the person hiring liked chess and thought it stimulated the mind, and I believe they also thought it gave a more human feeling to the candidate.
