While I like the idea, a potential problem comes to mind. A list of what domains are tracking domains will need to be maintained. The need to maintain that list will possibly move the cat-and-mouse game of ads vs ad-blockers to the tracking list as well. I could totally see Alphabet paying Mozilla to remove analytics.google.com from the tracking domain list (because "it's just analytics; it doesn't track you or infringe on your privacy at all") similar to advertisers paying to be on Adblock Plus' "Acceptable Ads" list.
- user5994461 9y agoGoogle analytics tracks you and infringes on your privacy.
- korethr 9y agoThat's the reason I put that statement in quotes. A </sarcastic> tag seemed like it set an unduly negative tone to the rest of the post.
- nasredin 9y agoOT. I think we need to standardize the sarcasm tag on the Internet. Not one of those RFC that no one implements, but something concrete, perhaps baked into the HTML standard. (If the W3C include DRM, they can include sarcasm). Or maybe something like ISO, but people ignore them too. /S
- ovao 9y agoThere’s actually a special character for this, unfortunately not in Unicode, called SarcMark. http://www.sarcmark.com http://www.sarcmark.com
- nasredin 9y agoThanks. There was recently a NYT article on trying to get a ballet shoe emoji (high heel shoes & sexism related) into Unicode. Sarcasm should be in Unicode! --- >Sarcasm, Inc. was formed in 2006 to pursue this idea, and with a great deal of effort and undying support from family and friends, the punctuation mark for sarcasm came to life. This is why America is the greatest country in the world! Sarcasm Inc even has (sarcastic?) shareholders and apps!

- jasonkostempski 9y agoI'd prefer everyone on the internet just figures out that sarcasm doesn't work well with text. Make a podcast or video if you must use it. Also "[something], err, I mean [something else]", doesn't work when we all know you have a backspace key.
- yjftsjthsd-h 9y agoI'm not going to record a video just to reply to HN comments;) And we all know what is meant by "X, er, that is, Y"; it's even used intentionally in verbal language.
- catach 9y ago> sarcasm doesn't work well with text. I think it's more that effective sarcasm in text requires the audience to know the viewpoint of the author. So, sarcasm among friends over email can work. Sarcasm in the concluding paragraph of an article can work. Sarcasm between strangers in comment sections, less so.
- eco 9y agoFirefox's Tracking Protection just uses the list provided by Disconnect. I imagine this will do the same.
- analogmemory 9y ago> Scripts are delayed only when added dynamically or as async.
- deckar01 9y ago> using data of the Tracking Protection database This database is already being maintained and used for private browsing. I find it unlikely that an analytics CDN will play cat and mouse with Mozilla just so it's script will load a few milliseconds sooner.
